Fuzzy's Signature BBQ Rubs

Many people who grill or barbecue don't realize that a fantastic source of taste and texture are premium rubs.  These can be used by themselves or with sauces.

The key is to apply them to the meat and then allow the meat to rest for ten or fifteen minutes.  This accomplishes two things:

1.  It brings the meat closer to room temperature, which any accomplished griller will tell you is extremly important.

2.  The moistness in the meat with activate the oils in the spices, allowing their flavor to get into the meat, fish or poultry, whatever you are grilling.

One important suggestion.  If you are going to use both a rub and a sauce, grill the meat with the rub and then apply the sauce towards the end of the grilling process.  This will create the layering of textures and tastes and will keep your sauce from burning.

 Fuzzy's Duck Headcover

When Fuzzy first joined The PGA TOUR, he represented PowerBilt.  (By the way, he does again.  Funny how things come full circle.)

Anyway, the bag was (as it now is) very orange, and Fuzzy had trouble finding a headcover for his driver to match up.

While playing in a tournament in the mid 70's, he strolled through a pro shop and came across a barrel of discounted headcovers, one of which was a yellow duck with an orange bill.

He bought it on the spot, and the rest is history.
